OFFICIAL 2022 SAN FRANCISCO WRITING CONTEST RULES:
- Your entry must be received by Saturday, September 30th, 2022. Use the convenient online form HERE. We do not confirm receipt of entries. If we receive an entry after midnight (PT) on September 30th, 2022, it will not be allowed.
- The entry fee is $30, which includes a copy of the anthology. You may enter as many times as you wish, provided that the entry has not been traditionally published prior to the contest.
- The entry must be the first 1,500 words (or less) of the first chapter of a book, novella, short story, essay or other kind of writing, in the appropriate category, digitally uploaded using our online contest entry form.
For the Poetry category, you may enter three (3) poems per submission if the total COMBINED word count is 1500 or below. - Do not put your name on any page of your entry. Do put your name on the official entry form and the check if that is how you are paying.
- No employee or board member of the San Francisco Writers Conference may participate in this contest.
- Finalists: Announcement of the finalists will be made on the SFWC website and in the SFWC Newsletter only. Check www.SFWriters.org after October 31st, 2022 for a list of finalists. This is the only place you will find out if you are a finalist. We do not call or email finalists.
Use our convenient online entry submission. I acknowledge that by participating in the ‘Contest’ I’m giving my consent to have my work published in the anthology if I am a finalist. This is not an exclusive publication contract. I retain the right to publish my work again in the future.
- Winners: The Grand Prize and First Place winners will be announced and listed at sfwriters.org on November 30th 2022. Please do not call or email for a list of winners. Winners will be contacted and informed of their prize. The winners will also be announced and featured in the SFWC Newsletter and published in the anthology.
- Judges approved by the SFWC management team will select the top entries in each category. These finalists will be judged by a group of publishing industry professionals to select the grand prize winner and winners in each category. The Contest judges solely on the quality of writing and awards prizes accordingly.
