The AMA (Ask-Me-ANYTHING) program is a series of interactive Zoom video meetings on the web where attendees can ask questions pertaining to their writing and publishing projects. A publishing industry professional, the featured expert, would answer these questions in these monthly live meetings.
Our October 11, 2024 meeting features an author who attributes her publishing success to attending the SF Writers Conference.
Katie Coleman is a software engineer, podcaster, author, stage IV cancer survivor, and an SFWC success story.
Diagnosed with an ultra-rare kidney cancer in December 2020, Katie had a tumor on her right kidney and over fifteen tumors in her liver. Her determination to learn about her diagnosis, combined with the power of community and social media, led to a life-altering surgery in June of 2021.
Since then, Katie has dedicated her life to sharing these learnings with others to help improve the experience for those who will come behind her. She founded the Chromophobe and Oncocytic Tumor Alliance and joined the Rare Cancer Research Foundation.
Katie has authored a memoir, Too Young For Cancer, scheduled to be released in November 2024; she is donating all her proceeds from its sale to advancing research for rare cancers.
Katie attributes her publishing success to the San Francisco Writers Conference. She attended SFWC 2023 and that was a major catalyst for her. She learned about the publishing business and book marketing—growing her email list and developing an enviable social media presence.
We are proud to feature Katie in our AMA this month. You can pick her brain about things that matter for your own writer’s journey.

The AMA meetings are INTERACTIVE; you can come up with questions in real-time and engage the expert. The featured expert will change from month to month. You can get different perspectives on your writing journey if you attend all of these meetings.
