SFWF and 826 National Auction

January 24, 2019 By San Francisco Writers Conference

The annual San Francisco Writers Foundation benefit auction series is back! In addition to helping sustain our own 501(c)3 nonprofit, each year, we share the proceeds with a rotating co-beneficiary that is doing good work in the literary community in San Francisco and around the country.

This year’s partner is a local institution that grew from a single location on Valencia Street in 2002 to become America’s largest youth writing network with centers in major cities coast-to-coast. 826 National helps young people ages 6-18 to ignite and channel their creativity, explore identity, advocate for themselves and their community, and achieve academic and professional success through writing.

Each 826 chapter offers five core programs: After-School Tutoring, Field Trips, Workshops, Young Authors’ Book Project, and In-School Programs — all free of charge. Last year, the 4,770 volunteers of 826 National served 32,350 students and 1,035 teachers with 1,705 after-school tutoring sessions and 885 writing workshops, giving rise to 1,010 student publications.

Here’s how you can help.

Follow @SFWC on Twitter and subscribe to the newsletter here, and we’ll let you know when the auctions are about to go live. We’ll be having three auctions this year: one online through our charity.ebay.com portal from February 1st -10th, one at the 16th annual San Francisco Writers Conference this Presidents Day Weekend at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero, and another online via our charity.ebay.com portal later in the year.

We’ve seen a generous outpouring of donations from publishing superstars. Items you can bid on include:

  • A 30-day mentorship with a million-selling suspense author
  • Query letter and writing sample critiques by literary agents and best-selling authors
  • Coffee meetings with literary agents and acquisitions editors
  • Book marketing master classes
  • Beta reading support
  • Author income optimization coaching
  • Public speaking/storytelling help for writers
  • Writers conference passes
  • 1-on-1 consultations with self-publishing professionals
  • And more!

Thank you for supporting the San Francisco Writers Foundation and 826 National. See you at the conference and online!
