The San Francisco Writers Conference desperately needs
your help to survive
It’s no secret funding for the arts has been in crisis lately. Due to different
economic and political factors, non-profits across the USA are
struggling–including the San Francisco Writers Conference.
The SFWC has been a beacon of hope for writers for 22 years
The San Francisco Writers Conference is a nonprofit providing education and
access to the publishing industry for writers in the community who would not
historically have that opportunity. We’ve been helping writers succeed since
2004, and want to continue this mission.
Recent events have challenged our attendance rates
The SFWC needs around 300 paid attendees each year (including scholarships)
to maintain the level of quality held for the past 22 years. Since the pandemic,
we’ve struggled to meet that minimum. With the current economic outlook grim, we
are concerned about our ability to offer the same incredible opportunities beyond
the 2027 conference.
Here is how you can help
If you believe in our mission and want to ensure the future of the San Francisco
Writers Conference, here are some things you can do to help.
Register early. The schedule and presenters’ list may not be up yet, but you
know we’ll bring in the best, friendliest, most accessible authors, agents, and
publishers to talk to you about the most current and essential elements of craft
and industry. Early registrations give us the fiscal boost we need to get going on
the next one with confidence.
**Because we had some difficulty with our online forms immediately after the last
conference, we’re extending the Early Bird/lowest price through April 30th, 2026.
Spread the word. Tell your friends and writing groups about your positive
experiences at the conference and share the low-price date extension. Share our
SFWC posts on social media.
Donate. Your donations help support our dedicated SFWC staff, programs, and
more. Head here to give to our non-profit charity 501(c)(3).
Fund a scholarship. Scholarships are a core pillar supporting our mission. In
2026, we were able to offer 18 scholarships to the conference. Support us in
any amount, or donate $1000+ and name a scholarship in someone’s honor!
Join our Patreon. Subscribe to Patreon at any level and let your writing
friends know that not only does it support scholarships, but it is also one of the
most affordable educational resources for writers that includes live events with
industry professionals.
Enter our Writing Contest. The 2026 SFWC Writing Contest is a small but
essential FUNdraiser with benefits for the winners, all the finalists, and every
author who enters. We don’t offer individual feedback, but because your entry fee
includes a copy of the anthology of winners, you can use it to analyze your
writing and spot areas to improve.
Become a Sponsor. If you have a writing or publishing-related business,
become a sponsor or advertiser. A variety of opportunities are available under
the “Sponsor” tab on our website, or email our coordinator at
sponsorships@sfwriters.org to talk about what will work best for you.
