Why come to SFWC?
- Access to industry professionals
The San Francisco Writers Conference offers the highest ratio of industry professionals to attendees available. It’s actually between a 3:1 and 4:1 ratio, a number I figured out in 2011 while searching for a conference to attend. My conference tuition was an investment that connected me to incredible opportunities to learn from and network with the people I needed to know to succeed as a writer and author—the kind of human connections I wasn’t successfully making through the internet. For the 2023 Conference, we have 16 literary agents and ten acquiring editors joining us. Every attendee who registers before February 10 will get one free 8-minute consultation with an agent or acquiring editor to pitch if you’re ready or ask questions if you’re not. We will open up the remaining appointments for $50 each on February 10 until they are filled. We also offer free consultations with independent editors, book coaches, and publicists. The appointment link is going out to registered attendees as soon as we have it ready. Some agent schedules will fill immediately. You could miss out on your #1 choice if you’re not registered yet.

In addition to connections for writers who aspire to a traditional publishing arrangement, we will have representatives from Draft2Digital/Smashwords, IngramSpark, BookBaby, and other trusted sponsors on hand for self-publishers who want to talk to a human about how to get the most out of these essential platforms. Their sessions will help you stand out in a crowded market and break through whatever hinders your success.
- Seventy-eight hours of content
Your conference tuition gives you 13 hour-long blocks of six simultaneous sessions to choose from in Fiction, Nonfiction, Kidlit, Business & Marketing, Poetry, Writing for Hollywood, Writing for Change, and Self-publishing tracks in addition to keynotes and plenary sessions where we all come together to be inspired and get current industry information. AND WE ARE RECORDING ALL OF THESE, so you don’t have to decide on one and miss out on another. Registered attendees of the full conference will get free access to all the videos for one year. - A la carte options for limited time and budget
If the full price is beyond you, we have two one-day Summits and 11 Master Classes available via separate registration at a lower price point. You can take an SFWC Master Class without attending the entire SFWC. And because we don’t want money to stand in anyone’s way, we offer several scholarships. Plan now to apply for a scholarship for 2024, to enter the 2023 Writing Contest (Grand Prize is a full registration), or to join us as a volunteer, as I did my first year, and attend without a fee.
As a reminder: Proof of covid vaccination or recent negative covid test and masking indoors will again be required to provide the safest possible environment for all. We had zero reports of anyone catching covid at the July conference, and we hope to turn that into a winning streak.
